It just gets worse and worse

Now that the story is beginning to come out, the news from Texas just keeps sounding worse and worse. In what is being called the largest child abuse case in history, Texas officials have removed about 400 children and teenagers as well as many of the their mothers from a religious compound. When listening to this story, keep in mind the far-reaching consequences of the religious leaders on their victims. Claiming that their right to practice religion free from the persecution of our government will not carry any weight with the state since the constitution does not condone abuse. I am enraged when I hear this type of rhetoric and hope that these leaders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of Texas law.

Wicked Wiccanism

Have you noticed all the wiccan websites lately? Yahoo and other sites are crawling with ads to help you find your soulmate, winning lottery numbers, dreams interpreted...... Yet there is a wistful part of me that would like to give it a try. Now don't be frightened for me, I'm not handing over my credit card to anybody, I assure you. I do think the theory of wiccanism has some relevance in today's world however. The ability to empower one's self has a very strong appeal, I especially like the tenet of "PRACTICE WHAT YE WILL, YET HURT NONE". So simple, yet how many of us do that? The fear of witches and their practice is easy enough to trace, just look into history books and you will see women suffering for their inability to "behave appropriately", and paying the price. Why am I trying to raise awareness of past persecution? Because it is happening today. Please websearch the following subjects: female circumcision, sexual assault, and Dar fur. Get involved. Empower ourselves with knowledge, and let Washington know this is wrong. Women and children should no longer be hostage to the whim of man. And in case you think events aren't close enough to home, check out Texas. There is currently a standoff between fundamentalists and law enforcement who are trying to determine the whereabouts of an underage female forced into marriage with an older male, guessed to be in his fifties. I shudder to think she is probably now held against her will, and suffering for trying to get help. My thoughts are with you,child. I light a candle for you and all other prisoners of religion as well.
